![]() Imagine voices like Cecil Baldwin that can make just reading the phone book entertaining, and combine that with fantastic sound design, so its dripping with heavy Victorian atmosphere. It's both very funny, and terrifying in places. They're a Holmes and Watson double act who believes the other to be the Watson.īoth series are well worth the money, but I'd recomend The Mahogany Murderers as a standalone thing to try out first- it's the most Nightvale esque in that it's the two men taking it in turns describing their adventures that day. The Scarifyers: The Magic Circle Von: Simon Barnard, Paul Morris Gesprochen von: David Warner, Terry Molloy, Stephen Thorne Serie: The Scarifyers, Titel 6 Spieldauer: 1 Std. George and Henry arent that close, but they are best friends that bicker like an old married couple. It's worth noting that I first became aware of nightvale through someone pointing out on tumblr that "an entertainer whose pretty much married to a sciency person, living where lots of wierd stuff happens" describes both audios. The stories are varied (gothic and lovecraftian horror, fantasy and sci fi) but both the comedy and drama comes from how the two play off one another. You don't really have to have seen that episode, or know that much about Doctor Who. It's also worth noting that after 30 years of their first and only story on tv, they sound like they've hardly aged a day. (Trevor Baxter) What started off as a one off in 2009- the Mahogany Murderers- ( ) has developed into a series on it's 9th season boxset. They are music hall M.C- Henry Gordon Jago (Christopher Benjamin) and police pathologist Professor George Litefoot. The Brenda and Effie Mysteries: Spicy Tea and Sympathy. ![]() While the Scarifyers uses a lot of actors from classic Doctor who, Jago and Litefoot is a direct spin off starring the characters from the Victorian based story The Talons of Weng Chiang. The Brenda and Effie Mysteries: Brenda Has Risen from the Grave. Discover the English Radio/TV Programme at Audible. I reccomend the (lovecraftian) Devil of Denge Marsh, King and Country, Curse of the Black Comet (special mention to guest star Brian Blessed, who is as Brian Blessed as you'd hope he'd be!) But the Magic Circle is special as not only does it introduce Warner to the cast but is a wonderful tribute to Nick Courtney who passed before recording started, and the story was rewritten for him and his character. The Scarifyers: The Magic Circle as its meant to be heard, narrated by David Warner, Terry Molloy, Stephen Thorne. The Scarifyers is set in the 1930s and stars Terry Molloy as Proessor Dunning a (terrible) pulp horror writer who gets involved in genuine spooky goings on with Inspector Lionheart played by the late great Nicholas Courtney (the Brigadier from Dr who) and replaced by David Warner as Harry Crow later on.Īfter their first adventure - the Nazad Conspiracy, they get enlisted into MI13- A secret government agency dealing with the Paranormal. ![]() If its audio of the horror/sci-fi comedy drama you're interesed in and don't mind paying for it, I'd wholeheartedly recommend "The Scarifyers" by Bafflegab productions and "Jago and Litefoot: Investigators of Infernal Incidents" by Big Finish. The Scarifyers : BBC Radio 4 Extra : Aug12:00AM-12:30AM BST.
